Contemporary artworks present specific characters and cannot be treated as “classical” artworks: aim, frequently different, materials used, closely tuned with their time, the use of special techniques or aertefacts (video imaging, electric circuits, radio, electronics, etc.), links within great number of such artwork and contemporary society, finally in many occurrences the fact that the artist would be still alive – and then would be able to give his opinion or to play a part in an eventual restoration – all these elements are setting up a whole combination of very particular conditions and obligations that, as far as we could see, widely justify the organization of an international congress on this topic. This congress should allow to update on all the problems presented by conservation of contemporary artworks, with trying to broach every side allowed by the subject. Concerning the choice of a date from when it is justified to speak about contemporary artworks – choice always more or less arbitrary, we thank that 1960, as the year, among others, of the publication in Milan’s “Manifeste des nouveaux réalistes” should constitute a legitimate date.

The dead line for paper proposal is now over, as well for posters. Posters will be presented in a special session, and published in the book of conference papers. Please see the conference programme for more details.

The languages used during the colloquium will be French and English with simultaneous translation. As in the past, the papers will be published and distributed to all participants at the opening of the colloquium. The congress will also allows opportunity to present commercial exhibition (conservation products, device, etc.).
